Michael Prendergast, Partner at Dickinson Parker Hill, said: “Former clients of Ice Blue Legal will undoubtedly be concerned about where important legal documents are located and how to obtain them. Iceblue Legal LLP, whose registered office is at 1st floor, 14 Church Street, Orsmskirk, Lancashire, L39 3AN, has been closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (“SRA”). This is called intervention. The intervention took place on September 4, 2018. Mr. AD paid cheques to Iceblue`s customer account almost every day and the company generally transferred the same amounts to him the same amount the same day before they were cashed. There was no indication that Mr.
AD or the cost companies were customers. If you were a client, Iceblue LLP can no longer trade for you. You need to find another lawyer to act. The Gordons do not act for you. The court found that between January 2016 and August 2018, more than £8 million was transferred from the client account of his company, Iceblue Legal, based in Ormskirk, Lancashire, to two underwriting companies and Mr AD, a director of both. When the cheques started bouncing back, Ms. Gribbin, then majority owner of Iceblue, explained “that she gave to Mr. AD had access to the company`s online statements and that he had participated in the creation of the company`s bank accounts as he would take care of all the finances.” Iceblue Legal began operations in 2013 and its services included personal injury, clinical negligence, wills and estate. Another Ormskirk law firm, Dickinson Parker Hill, offers to help people retrieve their legal documents, including wills, deeds, powers of attorney and leases, for free.
Barbara Gribbin, owner of Iceblue Legal, failed to repay nearly £40,000 in client funds The SRA took all client files from Iceblue Legal LLP`s offices to keep. If Iceblue Legal LLP has acted for you on something that has not yet been completed and your file has been restored, the SRA will notify you in writing and ask you where your file should be sent. You or your new lawyer should quickly tell Gordons where to send your case, as there can be significant delays. She became an individual practitioner, but found “a challenging practice.” She was in the process of closing her business when she said Mr. AD approached her and suggested she merge with Iceblue, which performed personal injury, wills and estate work. The company had “financial support” from one of Mr. AD`s cost companies. Barbara Gribbin was also ordered to pay £28,000 after a lawyers` disciplinary tribunal (SDT) investigated the disappearance of Iceblue Legal. The SRA will now examine in more detail the issues raised that led to this intervention to determine if further action is required.
At this stage of the SRA`s work, no further details can be announced, and there is no timetable for the duration of this work. The SDT also found that the lawyer had acted with a lack of integrity by failing to replace a lack of cash in the client`s account of at least £121,500, although she had not been dishonest in this case, nor by failing to ensure that reconciliations of client accounts were performed every five weeks, as required by the rules. “We are happy to help people who want their documents back for free and give them any additional advice they need once these documents have been received.” The court ruled that “while Ms. Gribbin`s allegation that she had been exploited may have been true,” she was an experienced lawyer who had been practicing for about 25 years and was the COLP and COFA of her firm. She explained that the deficit occurred in the last six months of 2017 because she allowed a business partner, referred only to Mr. AD, to deposit cheques into the customer`s account, which she then paid to another company before the cheques were cashed. Ms. Gribbin was automatically suspended, meaning she cannot practise law. Mr. AD initially told him he was selling a property to make up the deficit, but then ignored his calls. When she went to his home “to confront him,” she said he told her that he had put her business under administration and that she had to sell files to do the work in progress. “When the cheques started to bounce back and deficits appeared on accounts receivable, his motivation was to keep the company running, hoping that it could somehow make up the shortfall. The SRA states that the intervention comes after Ms. Gribbin failed to comply with the rules of sections 31 and 32 of the Lawyers Act. If a file has been restored for you, you can have it sent to you or your new lawyer. Ms Gribbin – born in 1965 and graduated in 1992 – said she met Mr AD when she was a clerk and he headed the accounting department of that law firm. Gordons LLP of Forward House, 8 Duke Street, Bradford, BD1 3QX was hired to help SRA close its doors. They are called the SRA Response Officer.
She said she didn`t benefit from the deal, but “knew it was wrong and agreed anyway.” To stay up to date, follow LancsLive on Facebook and @LiveLancs on Twitter.
